BOXWOOD HANDBOOK

The first reference work on boxwood published in the French language

A PUBLICATION OF VITAL INTEREST TO LOVERS OF BOXWOOD

Boxwood is a familiar shrub in many parts of the United States and Europe, but is still not well understood. Gardeners know of its reputation, but would find it difficult to identify any of the 300 cultivars or describe good growing practices. Professionals search for accurate and detailed information to make horticultural decisions. This book is for all these individuals. It provides boxwood cultural information that is practical, technical, and authoritative, in a useful and understandable form, with 90 color photographs. It describes what is necessary to successfully select and propagate boxwood, to control pests and diseases, and in particular, to give appropriate care.

THE AUTHOR : LYNN R. BATDORF

For nearly 30 years, Lynn R. Batdorf has been Curator of the National Boxwood Collection at the U.S. National Arboretum in Washington, D.C. For the past 20 years, he has served as the International Cultivar Registration Authority for Buxus L. He has authored three popular books and over 50 articles on a variety of boxwood topics. He lectures nationally and internationally to professional audiences. He is an Honorary Life Member of both the American Boxwood Society and the European Boxwood and Topiary Society (EBTS)

THE TRANSLATOR : MARTINE HIGONNET

From Vassar College, Poughkeepsie, N.Y. she earned a B.A. in Political Science and Languages, and from the Sorbonne, the Agrégation, and a DEA for her dissertation on 'Montaigne's influence on Shakespeare in Othello'. Years ago, fate led her to an old village in the Haut-de-France area, where an old mansion, and its historical topiary garden, Le Jardin des Ifs,  (which was awarded the Outstanding Garden label) summoned her to remain. President Patrick Salembier was intrigued by the topiary and later introduced her to Author Lynn R. Batdorf, among the box trees of his Arboretum, in Washington, D.C.
